Exact and Monte Carlo study of adsorption of a self-interacting polymer chain for a family of three-dimensional fractals

چکیده
We study the problem of adsorption of self-interacting linear polymers situated in fractal containers that belong to the three-dimensional (3d) Sierpinski gasket (SG) family of fractals. Each member of the 3d SG fractal family has a fractal impenetrable 2d adsorbing surface (which is, in fact, 2d SG fractal) and can be labelled by an integer b (2 ≤ b ≤ ∞). By applying the exact and Monte Carlo renormalization group (MCRG) method, we calculate the critical exponents ν (associated with the mean squared end-to-end distance of polymers) and φ (associated with the number of adsorbed monomers), for a sequence of fractals with 2 ≤ b ≤ 4 (exactly) and 2 ≤ b ≤ 40 (Monte Carlo). We find that both ν and φ monotonically decrease with increasing b (that is, with increasing of the container fractal dimension df ), and the interesting fact that both functions, ν(b) and φ(b), cross the estimated Euclidean values. Besides, we establish the phase diagrams, for fractals with b = 3 and b = 4, which reveal existence of six different phases that merge together at a multi-critical point, whose nature depends on the value of the monomer energy in the layer adjacent to the adsorbing surface. On the number of contacts of a floating polymer chain crosslinked with a surface adsorbed chain on fractal structures
We study the interaction problem of a linear polymer chain, floating in fractal containers that belong to the three-dimensional Sierpinski gasket (3D SG) family of fractals, with a surface-adsorbed linear polymer chain. Each member of the 3D SG fractal family has a fractal impenetrable 2D adsorbing surface, which appears to be 2D SG fractal. The two-polymer system is modelled by two mutually cr...
متن کاملHomo-polymers with balanced hydrophobicity translocate through lipid bilayers and enhance local solvent permeability
Recent experimental studies indicate that polymeric structures with a well-adjusted balance of amphiphilic parts may translocate through self-assembled phospholipid bilayers and enhance the passive trans-membrane transport of smaller molecules. Using a coarse grained lattice Monte Carlo model with explicit solvent we investigate self-assembled lipid bilayers interacting with a linear polymer ch...

We have simulated a magnetite nanoparticle based ferrofluid using Monte Carlo method. Two and three dimensional Monte Carlo simulations have been done using parallel computing technique. The aggregation and rearrangement of nanoparticles embedded in a liquid carrier have been studied in various particle volume fractions. Our simulation results are in complete agreement with the reported experim...
متن کاملA New Approach for Monte Carlo Simulation of RAFT Polymerization
In this work, based on experimental observations and exact theoretical predictions, the kinetic scheme of RAFT polymerization is extended to a wider range of reactions such as irreversible intermediate radical terminations and reversible transfer reactions. The reactions which have been labeled as kinetic scheme are the more probable existing reactions as the theoretical point of view. The ...
متن کاملMonte Carlo methods for strongly interacting polymer systems
Markov chain Monte Carlo methods often su er from slow convergence problems when applied to strongly interacting polymer systems. One way to alleviate these problems is to run several Markov chains in parallel, with the di erent Markov chains being designed to sample at di erent temperatures, and with suitable swapping of con gurations between pairs of chains. This method was rst invented by Ge...
